UAS AIR
OPERATIONS
UAS AIR
OPERATIONS
The exercise provides participants with foundational knowledge and practical skills for integrating Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) into search and rescue (SAR) operations. Designed for public safety professionals, emergency responders, and drone operators, the program focuses on the unique capabilities of UAS, regulatory requirements, operational safety, and mission planning. Participants will gain hands-on experience in UAS operations, including aerial search patterns, data collection, and coordination with ground teams.
Training Objectives:
Upon completing this exercise, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the role of UAS in SAR operations and its advantages over traditional methods.
2. Navigate the legal and regulatory landscape governing UAS operations, including FAA Part 107 guidelines.
3. Plan and execute UAS missions using standardized procedures and safety protocols.
4. Utilize UAS platforms to perform aerial searches, map terrains, and analyze real-time data.
5. Employ advanced sensors such as thermal imaging cameras and LiDAR for enhanced situational awareness.
6. Integrate UAS data into SAR command centers for improved decision-making.
Key Topics Covered:
·Overview of UAS Technology in SAR
FAA Regulations and Operational Compliance
UAS Safety Protocols and Emergency Procedures
Mission Planning and Aerial Search Patterns
Payloads and Sensor Capabilities (e.g., Thermal Imaging, LiDAR)
Data Collection, Processing, and Reporting
Interoperability with Ground Teams and Emergency Operations Centers
Practical Components:
·Hands-on flight training with UAS platforms.
Simulated SAR missions involving terrain mapping, target identification, and live data analysis.
Post-mission reviews to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement.
Target Audience:
This course is ideal for public safety personnel, emergency managers, law enforcement officers, fire departments, and certified drone operators interested in enhancing their SAR capabilities with UAS technology.
Prerequisites:
Basic familiarity with drones and flight operations is recommended.
FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification is beneficial but not required.
Certification:
