The Stokes “Statewide” SAREX 2025 event will be a multi-operational period exercise that will allow credentialled and noncredentialled (task book or shadow opportunities) to practice and hone their incident management skills in a simulated complex incident environment. We will have multiple AHIMT subject matter experts on hand to facilitate the flow of information as well as assist the IMT and sign Position Specific Task Books (PSTB) as needed.
In the search and rescue (SAR) environment, an Incident Management Team (IMT) plays a crucial role in coordinating and managing the overall response effort. Here are some of their key functions:
Overall Command and Control: The IMT establishes a command structure, assigns roles and responsibilities, and ensures clear lines of communication among all personnel involved in the search and rescue operation.
Resource Management: The team assesses and allocates resources effectively, including personnel, equipment, vehicles, and other necessary supplies. This may involve coordinating with other agencies and organizations to obtain additional resources as needed.
Incident Action Planning: The IMT develops and implements an incident action plan, outlining the objectives, strategies, and tactics for the search and rescue operation. This plan is regularly reviewed and updated as the situation evolves.
Safety Oversight: The team prioritizes the safety of all personnel involved in the operation, implementing safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks. This may include hazard assessments, personal protective equipment requirements, and communication plans for emergencies.
Public Information and Liaison: The IMT manages communication with the public, media, and other stakeholders, providing updates on the progress of the search and rescue operation and addressing any concerns or questions.
Documentation and Reporting: The team maintains accurate records of all activities, including resource deployment, personnel assignments, and incident progress. This documentation is essential for after-action reviews and future planning.
Coordination with Other Agencies: The IMT coordinates with other agencies and organizations involved in the search and rescue operation, such as law enforcement, fire departments, and emergency medical services. This collaboration ensures a unified and effective response.
By effectively fulfilling these functions, the Incident Management Team ensures that the search and rescue incident is conducted safely, efficiently, and effectively, maximizing the chances of a successful outcome.
